Your tour this morning departs your Melbourne Hotel and travels North through the historic Central Victorian countryside. Towns in this region have grand streetscapes from wealth discovered in the 1850’s gold rush era. Marvellous architecture with impressive public buildings, mansions, towering bluestone viaducts and three story roadside mills can all be seen. Your guide will also have time to stop so you can see first hand the tiny stone miners cottages that the area is famous for, all relics of this golden era.
Continuing on we reach the small town of Kyneton known as the ‘bluestone town of Victoria’. The basalt buildings are true Victorian antiques and cannot be seen on this scale in any other Victorian town. Your guide will walk you down the the well-trodden Piper Street, rejuvenated for antique browsers, art lovers and shoppers interested in bespoke fashion, jewellery, handmade furniture and home-made cuisine. Enjoy a freshly made coffee or treat in one of the local stores.
Our next stop is Lavandula a restored Swiss farmhouse where you will have the chance to wonder through the fields of lavender and olives. Next, we stop at Hepburn Springs to enjoy fresh, natural spa water straight from the ground. Natural springs were found here during the gold rush era, and soon the region became a popular spa retreat.
Lunch is enjoyed at The Farmers Arms, Daylesford’s oldest hotel. Here visitors can rub shoulders with the locals and enjoy an amazing and uniquely Australian “Pub Lunch”.
After lunch you will have an opportunity to explore the fascinating town of Daylesford. Stroll the main street and explore the many interesting boutiques and attractions. Afterwards you will rejoin the vehicle for the scenic drive back to Melbourne.
