After meeting your guide this morning we depart on a day of discovery. We firstly head north along the Yarra River to taking in many of the historical locations including Enterprise Park which was the founding site of Melbourne in 1835. We take in the site of the “Turning Basin” and learn about the Aboriginal Heritage of the area.
Moving on from the river we take in the site of the former Western Market and the statues of Melbourne’s Founders, John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner. You will explore the interior of the ANZ bank. This gothic heritage listed 1800’s building has one of the most ornate interiors in Australia.
We finish the morning with a look at the Theatre District including the 1929 Regent Theatre picture palace and 1839 Athenaeum Theatre.
As lunchtime approaches we make our way to one of Melbourne’s leading Italian restaurants Campari House. Here you will enjoy a modern cuisine and enjoy the chance to catch some laughs with your guide.
After lunch we hit the streets again and spend the afternoon exploring Melbourne’s laneways, arcades malls and wine bars. Start your journey back in time with majestic buildings built during the 1880’s Gold rush boom time and see the contrast to the present. Discover the 1956 subway, now home to the work of local artists and explore Melbourne’s famous graffiti lanes including the hidden art gallery. To finish the day your guide will show into one of Melbourne’s famous wine bars. Relax in a cozy atmosphere with a glass of Australian wine and watch the world go by. From here you can settle in or your guide will escort you back to your hotel.
