In the cooler months, we intuitively magnetise towards cosy open fires, red wine, comfort food and endless views of the moody countryside. Lucky for you, we know just the regions to get you feeling all those feels.
Covid-19 has effectively stopped international tourism in its tracks but the good to come out of this is we now have the whole country to ourselves. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing our intimate knowledge of selected destinations so you can start planning your next regional escape. It makes sense to kick things off with a place that is the perfect winter destination, the Blue Mountains.
The Blue Mountains (& a little Beyond)
Rediscover the Blue Mountains or get back to nature in the Turon Valley with a unique stay in a luxurious permanent tent. Enjoy horse riding and bushwalking in a pristine location away from the crowds in your own little piece of paradise. Perhaps you might prefer a more luxurious all-inclusive escape and enjoy a few nights immersed in nature at Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa. Whatever you choose, we can help you plan some pretty cool stuff.
Blue Mountains
The charming village of Bilpin is located in the lower Blue Mountains along the Bells Line of Road. It is a great place to stop if you are starting your journey from Sydney. Make a stop at the recently opened Grumpy Baker for a great cup of coffee and perhaps a pastry (you won’t be disappointed). If you are staying in self-contained accommodation than definitely stock up with fresh fruit supplies at The Fruit Bowl. You can also pick your own if you want it to be super fresh! We would definitely recommend your next stop to be Bilpin Cider, they offer free tastings and sell their entire range at the cellar door. Next, make a visit to the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens located at Mt Tomah for stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The gardens are also pretty amazing and definitely Instagram-worthy. They also have a cafe on-site for morning tea/lunch. If you are planning on staying in the Blue Mountains then Lilianfells is probably the best luxury resort, followed by the Hydro Majestic.
Turon Valley, Capertee
If you are planning to continue west of the Blue Mountains and looking for somewhere a little different to stay, we would highly recommend Turon Gates.
Spread over 6,000 acres of tranquil and unspoilt private property is Turon Gates, an authentic bush hideaway. Located in the Blue Mountains on the way to Mudgee offering glamping tents situated along 15km of crystal clear trout stream. These tents offer a true and authentic luxury glamping experience where every detail has been carefully thought out and executed perfectly. Each tent has its own bathroom with a big tub to soak in and the living area has its very own log fire ready for a cosy night in. The owners live on-site and they regularly join the guests at the communal campfire for a glass of local Mudgee wine. It literally feels like you are a world away, and the phone reception, or lack thereof, certainly confirms that. If you are after a place to unplug, unwind and wake up to the sounds of nature we would highly recommend 2-3 nights at Turon Gates. Because it is so close to Mudgee, you must spend a day visiting the family-owned cellar doors. We can help arrange a private tour so all parties can enjoy a local wine or two.
Wolgan Valley
At the foot of the Wolgan Valley, lies one of Australia’s most luxurious conservation-based lodges, Emirates One & Only Resort & Spa. The resort occupies just one percent of its own 2,800-hectare conservancy. The Wolgan Valley is approximately 26 kilometres long and seven kilometres wide. Steep cliffs contrast with the gentle curve of the valley floor and a picturesque road winds along the river to reach the resort on the eastern end. If you arriving from interstate, take a scenic transfer via the Blue Mountains and explore the region with a local guide before arriving in time for check-in.
